2011 JSPP SENDAI

The 52nd Annual Meeting of JSPP has been canceled

Message regarding the Tohoku earthquake by JSPP President

Greeting

We are very pleased to inform you that the 52nd Annual Meeting of JSPP will be held from March 20th to 22nd, 2011 (Sunday to Tuesday) at the Kawauchi-Kita Campus of Tohoku University (http://www.tohoku.ac.jp/english/profile/about/10/about1003/index.html) in Sendai city, Miyagi prefecture, Japan. Based on experiences at the last two annual meetings in Nagoya 2009 and Kumamoto 2010, nearly a thousand papers including symposia, oral and poster presentations are expected at the 2011 annual meeting. It will be a good opportunity to share the scientific knowledge in plant sciences with many colleagues, as well as a chance to renew old friendships and make new friends.

The recent announcement of the next governmental plan emphasized that the importance of plant science as well as the promotion of a recycling-oriented society will be included in the strategy for Japan's own innovative science and technology program, under the terms "Green-Innovation" and "Life-Innovation". Our JSPP has been promoting cutting-edge research on plant sciences and has encouraged the next generation of leaders in scientific areas related to plant physiology. We are hoping that the 52nd Annual Meeting of JSPP will contribute to further progress in plant sciences. In this meeting, a presentation by high school students will also be organized in association with the "EGGS" program (http://www.ige.tohoku.ac.jp/mirai/) of Tohoku University.

The Kawauchi-Kita Campus is located approximately 2 km west of the downtown area of Sendai city, which is about a 15-min ride by bus from Sendai Railway Station. There is a direct railway connection from Sendai Airport to the Railway Station and the downtown area is within walking distance from there. In the downtown area, there are a number of restaurants that serve local fine foods as well as Asian, Indian, and western cuisines. This area of Miyagi prefecture is also famous for brewing high quality of sake. Sendai is an urban center that remains in harmony with nature (see: http://www.sentabi.jp/1000/10000000.html). The Hirose-gawa River, where sweetfish live, runs through the central city area and Zelkova trees line the main streets downtown.

At Sendai, we will do our best to take a step forward in the history of the JSPP with the assistance of academic members in Sendai area. We look forward to meeting you next March.
