Plant & Cell Physiology (PCP) is a high-quality journal (latest Impact Factor 4.319) and ranked in the top 8% out of 209 plant science journals worldwide. In this luncheon seminar, several members of the PCP editorial board will discuss the following:
1. PCP’s current situation and future targets: Dr. H. Sakakibara (Nagoya University / RIKEN)
2. General tips on authoring and reviewing for a top-class journal: Dr. Enrico Martinoia (University of Zürich, Switzerland)
3. Ask the editors: Dr. Enrico Martinoia, Dr. David Jackson (Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, USA), Dr. Ildoo Hwang (POSTECH, Korea), and others
*The editors attending this seminar are subject to change without notice.
*The first 150 attendees will be served a lunch box and a bottled tea. No prior application required.
Speaker: Yutaka Kodama (Utsunomiya University/RIKEN)

In plant cells, chloroplasts exhibit strong autofluorescence, which restricts imaging experiments with exogenous fluorophores such as fluorescent proteins. Recently, using the time-gating method, my laboratory has succeeded in rejecting chlorophyll autofluorescence in live-cell imaging (Kodama 2016 PLoS ONE, e0152484). In this luncheon seminar, I would like to show our experimental results obtained with the time-gating method by using a white light laser (WLL) and hybrid detector (HyD) (Leica Microsystems). The time-gating method will be a fundamental technology for fluorescence imaging in plants.
*The first 150 attendees will be served a lunch box and a bottled tea. No prior application required.

The world population now exceeds 7.3 billion people and it is expected to reach over 9 billion in the year 2050. Global food requirements continue to increase further with the economic growth in developing countries. With this background, the role of crop protection products (CPPs) will become increasingly important to support a secure and sustainable food supply. In this seminar, Japan Crop Protection Association (JCPA) will present four important points regarding food production and CPPs as follows: 1) The importance of food production, 2) The role of CPPs, 3) Supporting policies for CPPs’ safety with scientific evidence, 4) The appropriate use of CPPs.
*The first 100 attendees will be served a lunch box and a bottle of tea. No prior application required.
“What is unconscious bias? Talk and discussion with Dr. Machi Dilworth (OIST).”
Date: Saturday, March 18 (12:10-13:00) *program
Venue: Room G
All of us have “unconscious bias”. What is unconscious bias and how do we recognize it? Following a talk by Dr. Machi Dilworth (Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University: OIST), we will discuss how we can minimize the negative impact of unconscious bias in our working environments.
*The first 100 attendees will be served a lunch box and a bottle of tea. No prior application required.
