Greeting

The 66th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists will be held for three days from March 14 to 16, 2025, at the Kakuma Campus of Kanazawa University. Despite the Noto Peninsula earthquake at the beginning of 2024, the annual meeting will proceed as planned since there was fortunately no major impact on research and education at the Kakuma Campus. The last time the annual meeting was held in Kanazawa was in 1993 for the 33rd meeting, making this the first time in 33 years that the event returns to the city. We are fortunate to have this opportunity at Kanazawa University and aim to create a "comfortable" conference where participants can focus on presentations and discussions and enjoy the atmosphere. While there are few JSPP members at Kanazawa University, we will organize and prepare the meeting with support from the universities in the Hokuriku region, including Ishikawa Prefectural University, Niigata University, Fukui Prefectural University, Toyama University, and Nagaoka University of Technology.

Following the 2023 Sendai meeting and the 2024 Kobe meeting, which marked the transition from exclusively online meetings to a hybrid format combining in-person presentations and Q&A sessions, the Kanazawa meeting will also adopt a hybrid format. The main format will be in-person presentations to facilitate active discussions, but remote participation and presentations will also be possible. We plan to encourage the use of English as the presentation language to enhance the internationalization of the meeting.

The Kanazawa meeting will be held in the Main Building of Natural Science and Technology, constructed after the previous Kanazawa meeting. The building features an open promenade, which we hope will provide a cohesive space where all participants can engage in research presentations and discussions. Although attendees will need to take a bus from Kanazawa Station or Korinbo, where many accommodation facilities are located, to the Kakuma Campus, we plan to ensure smooth and stress-free transportation.

Kanazawa offers delicious sake, fresh seafood, beautiful Japanese gardens, and historic old townscapes. We hope attendees will enjoy these unique attractions while also having the opportunity to interact with each other. We aim to create an annual meeting that will be memorable for students and young researchers aspiring to plant science, making them want to return. The entire organizing committee looks forward to welcoming many participants.
