Regulations for the Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists Young Investigator Award
The Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists (hereafter referred to as “JSPP”) shall confer the JSPP Young Investigator Award (hereafter referred to as the “Young Investigator Award”) in order to promote research by young investigators in plant science-related fields.
The JSPP shall grant the Young Investigator Award to a promising individual member of the JSPP who has published internationally acclaimed paper(s) in the fields of plant science such as plant physiology, plant biochemistry, plant molecular biology, or plant cell biology.
The Young Investigator Award shall be granted regardless of the awardee’s nationality. Candidates must be under the age of 40 as of April 1 of the awarding year or have less than 18 years of research experience, which includes the period of enrollment in graduate school. A significant portion of the research for which the Young Investigator Award is being granted must have been conducted in Japan, presented at the JSPP Annual Meeting, or published in Plant and Cell Physiology.
The awardees shall be selected from among the candidates who have applied for the Young Investigator Award through self-nomination or nomination by a JSPP member. A candidate must submit a JSPP-prescribed application form and relevant documents to the JSPP Headquarters by the designated date in October.
The Young Investigator Award Committee, which has been organized under the JSPP Award Committee regulations stipulated separately, shall select the Young Investigator Award candidates and report the selection result to the President. The President shall then notify the result to Directors and determine the awardees by a resolution of the Board of Directors. In general, the Young Investigator Award shall be given to no more than 2 investigators each year.
The President shall present an honorary certificate and a supplementary prize of 200,000 yen to the Young Investigator Award recipients at the award ceremony of the JSPP Annual Meeting. In general, awardees resident in Japan shall give an award lecture at the Annual Meeting.
The supplementary prize money shall be disbursed from the JSPP project account.
