Lipids form integral and fundamental components of all living cells, and as such are essential for general growth, signalling and development. In recent years, plant and algal lipids have also been recognised for their important and diverse roles in environmental adaptation, especially under stressful conditions, as well as for their applications in developing sustainable sources of food, feed, biofuel and industrial feedstock.
This special issue provides a snapshot of the holistic role of plant and algal lipids: in all their states and on all scales, and is guest edited by Yonghua Li-Beisson and Rebecca Roston.
