1st Announcement of the 65th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists

The 65th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists is scheduled to be held in Kobe. The Kobe Annual Meeting will be the first annual meeting since COVID infections were moved from Category 2 equivalent to Category 5. This meeting will be held in a hybrid format, with on-site presentations and online participation. Poster presentations will be held onsite (online viewing and Q&A will be available in a chat format). Oral presentations will be held at the venue, but both presentations and viewing will be available online. We hope that many of our members will participate in the meeting.

Please note that there may be some changes in the presentation format and the banquet depending on COVID infection status. We will inform you through the Annual Meeting website as soon as it is decided.

  • March 16 (Sat): The day before the meeting
    PCP Editor’s Committee and Editorial Board meetings. Board of Delegates meeting (evening, planned).
  • March 17 (Sun): Day 1
    General presentations, symposia, etc.
  • March 18 (Mon): Day 2
    General presentations and symposia, award ceremony and lectures (afternoon), banquet (evening).
  • March 19 (Tue): Day 3
    General presentations, symposia, etc.

Details of the poster presentations (onsite and online) and high-school students’ presentations will be posted on the Annual Meeting website.

(4) Applications for attendance and presentations
  • As in previous years, all applications for attendance and presentations must be submitted online.
  • Deadlines are as follows (planned).
    Applications for presentations, including abstracts in English: November 30 (Thu), 2023. Applications for attendance: February 6 (Tue), 2024.

Details will be posted on the Annual Meeting website.

(5) General presentations
  • Two types of presentations, oral and poster, will take place in the meeting. Please note that due to venue constraints, participants may be asked to change the type of presentation.
  • Poster presentations will be held at the venue (Posters will be viewable online).
  • Oral presentations can be made either at the venue or remotely online using Zoom.
  • The only device which may be used in oral presentations onsite is an LCD projector.
  • Detailed information for poster and online presentations will be announced on the Annual Meeting website.
  • Language and format of abstract submission are to be determined. We will announce the details on the Annual Meeting website.
(6) Symposia
  • JSPP members are encouraged to submit proposals for symposia.
  • Symposia last for 3 hours and take place during the meeting either in morning or afternoon sessions (except for afternoon on Day 2 of the meeting).
  • Symposia can be held either at the venue or remotely online. A mix of both can be used for a single symposium.
  • The only device which may be used in symposia is an LCD projector.
  • We actively encourage presenters to hold symposia in English in order to make the meeting more international. The JSPP is planning to have funding available for supporting several symposia in English (up to ¥300,000 per symposium). For details, please visit the Annual Meeting website.
  • Proposals should be submitted by e-mail (jspp2024@nacos.com). Please send an application file by August 31 (Thu), 2023, in accordance with the guidelines below.
  • A confirmation e-mail will be sent out on receipt of the proposal. In case no confirmation e-mail is received within a week, please contact the Annual Meeting Committee Office.
  • We are planning to have 12 symposia. If the number of proposals exceeds 12, the Annual Meeting Committee will select the best proposals. We encourage young researchers to submit innovative proposals. It is likely that symposia in English will be given priority.
  • Each participant can make one presentation during the meeting, whether it be in a symposium, a general oral presentation or a poster presentation. Please bear this in mind when selecting speakers.
  • Please note that we cannot pay travel expenses and gratuities to speakers (including non-member) except for travel expenses awarded to English symposia.
  • When planning a symposium, please consider gender balance, and if possible, add half or at least one female speaker. We also welcome female organizers.
<Guidelines for submitting a symposium proposal>

Please submit a file of a single A4 page containing the following.

  1. Representative’s name (in case of multiple representatives, please specify a contact person), professional affiliation, address, telephone number, and e-mail address.
  2. Title (both Japanese and English), up to 30 characters (Japanese) or 120 characters including spaces (English)
  3. Language (Japanese or English)
  4. Main points of symposium, name of presenter(s), and presentation titles
  5. Please state whether or not you request funding (English symposia only). If awarded, the organizer will be asked to contribute a short report to the Gakkai Tsushin Newsletter (newsletter in Japanese).
  6. Existence or non-existence of co-sponsorship (if so, the name of the organization)
(7) Satellite Meetings

Participants wishing to organize a satellite meeting should submit an application form by e-mail (jspp2024@nacos.com) by August 31 (Thu), 2023, in accordance with the guidelines below. If you use the Kobe International Conference Center on the afternoon of March 16 (Sat), the day before the meeting, you will be responsible for the facility usage fee separately incurred for each meeting.

  • The Board of Delegates meeting will be held in the evening of March 16 (Sat). Please be considerate of delegates among the participants of the satellite meeting.
  • A confirmation e-mail will be sent out on receipt of the proposal. In case no confirmation e-mail is received within a week, please contact the Annual Meeting Committee Office.
  • The Annual Meeting Committee will discuss the proposals and decide which of them will be accepted. The results will be announced by December 12 (Tue), 2023.
  • The Annual Meeting Committee Office will assist in securing a venue, arranging necessary devices, arranging meals, but these must be undertaken by the organizers of the meeting.
<Guidelines for submitting a satellite meeting proposal>
  1. Name of representative or meeting organizer, professional affiliation, address, telephone number, and e-mail address
  2. Name of the meeting
  3. Outline of the meeting (2–3 lines)
  4. Preferred time slot (either afternoon of March 16, evening of March 17, afternoon of March 19, or evening of March 19)
  5. Required devices (microphone, projector, etc.)
  6. Expected enrollment
  7. Whether or not participants have meals and whether or not the organizers wish to have them arranged.
(8) Award Ceremony and Banquet

The award ceremony and lectures will take place at the Main Hall on the afternoon of March 18 (Mon). Banquet will take place on the same day in the evening on the Kobe Cruise, Luminous Kobe-2.

(9) Abstracts

Abstracts will be available to all participants only in an electrical form. The program and venue maps will be sent to all JSPP members in advance as part of Gakkai Tsushin Newsletter (newsletter in Japanese). Abstracts will be downloadable as PDF files through the Annual Meeting website.

(10) Accommodation

The Annual Meeting Committee Office does not provide assistance with accommodation. Please make your own arrangements.

(11) Childcare

The availability of onsite childcare is under consideration. We will make an announcement on the Annual Meeting website as soon as a decision is made.

(12) Advertisements/Displays

We are looking for corporations and groups who may wish to place an advertisement in the abstract booklet or set up a display of devices/literature at the meeting venue. Some slots for luncheon seminars are available to enhance advertising reach for those putting up displays. Please visit the Annual Meeting website for details.
